CSC Training Courses

CSC has developed a suite of interactive workshops to help clients understand the Risk Process and the results from a quality analysis.

Risk Analysis Primer
This four hour course provides a working overview of risk analysis concepts and methodologies for members of the project team. At the end of the workshop attendees are able to appreciate the quality of an analysis and draw conclusions based on probability distributions, tornado diagrams and step diagrams.

Risk Awareness Training
The course is designed to give project leaders in-depth exposure to the tools that are required to recognize the attributes of a quality risk analysis as it relates to their project. The attendees will also focus on interpreting the results from a risk analysis to optimize their project.

The workshop is delivered in a facilitated environment where attendees apply the immediate learnings from the course to a sample project and develop a comprehensive risk management plan in the workshop.

The course has three half-day modules that are used to teach the principles of good project and risk management:

  • Project Management Primer this module describes terminology and covers the basics of cost and schedule control required for modern day projects.
  • Risk Awareness this module defines what risk is, how risk is quantified and how risk management fits into good project management practices.
  • Risk Management Tools This module describes the questions that decision makers need to ask as part of the project oversight and how the results of a properly conducted risk analysis can be used to answer those questions.

Interpreting Risk Results
The course is designed to give senior managment the knowledge to appreciate the quality of a project risk analysis and to understand the impact of the potential consequences on a portfolio of projects. The workshop is delivered in a facilitated environment where attendees participate in the immediate learnings from the course and review sample outputs from several diverse projects to gain a better understanding of what the project results mean.

This half-day course covers the following concepts:

  • Risk Process Overview
  • Risk Identification
  • Risk Quantification
  • Quantitative Risk Measures
  • Interpreting Results
  • Risk Management Plannning
  • Review of Supplemental Results

Building a Risk Register
Risk registers have become the norm from the smallest to the largest of projects, and are used to measure, manage and mitigate uncertainty. The risk register is a snapshot of the actions that project has to implement immediately to mitigate risks and capture opportunities. The risk register is meant to be used as a dynamic tool in support of strategic plans and project execution plans.

This full-day workshop teaches people how to conduct risk reviews to identify and document project risks. This collaborative process is a useful and efficient way to identify, assess, and rank risks on projects. Developing a risk register is an iterative process that is used to capture the participants' collective knowledge in a comprehensive "bottom up" risk register that serves as the basis for a formalized risk management plan.

Project Management Principles
The interactive workshop follows the guidelines of the Project Management Institute's Body of Knowledge to provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts required for the Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification. The workshop is delivered in an interactive environment where participants apply the Project Management Principles to a sample project.

This six module course requires three full days:

  1. Scope Management
  2. Time Management
  3. Cost Management
  4. Quality Management
  5. Risk Management
  6. Project Organization
